what do you guys/gals think good beginner corals are...through experience or through just boards....some pages say that some corals and fish for that matter are easy care, while other pages rate the same coral as difficult....thanks

IMHO, mushrooms would be the easiest to start with for a rookie.

mushrooms are great starters along with kenya trees. mines been through 3 amonia spikes in the beginning and looked to have decinigrated(sp) but kept coming back. xenia works okay if you have nitrate issues...imo

I bought a clove polyp frag a couple of weeks ago. It fully opened up in my tank within an hour and it's already growing under my PC lights.

this is about the list I would reccomend, I would steer clear of xenia at first it can be hit or miss in newer tanks, some people have great luck some have poor luck, xenia really likes established systems best.

thanks for all the comments.......this is the list i was looking at...mushrooms, mixed zoos, leather toadstool, (at first) flower pot , but now i did my research and found out they were impossible to keep, yellow polyps, sun corals as my last new addition( don't have a problem spot feeding) maybe an open brain, and my favroite is frogspawn....everywhere it says they are easy and swf.com says they are difficult....i have a spot in the aquarium surrounded by rock away from the other corals perfect for a frogspawn

Sounds like you have done your homework on these corals.

It is nice to see someone who researches what they want instead of buying and researching later.
Also, frogspawn is definately not difficult to keep...just make sure to keep it away from other corals .

I have read that Zoa's are the best but shrooms are easy too. No experience but that is just what i read. I am buying my first coral this weekend. Some brown Zoa

Zoos, yellow polyps and mushrooms are super easy. I've had good luck with Candy Canes as well.

Leathers are also forgiving. They will also help keep parameters good as you can see when they are not happy.

This is basically what I started with, so I have to agree.
Not too mention, these are some very pretty corals. I wouldn't feel bad at all if this was all I had in my tank.

Glad that you did research on what you wanted to buy.
Gonio(flowerpots)are nearly impossible not totally impossible.

I agree with this, my figi yellow leather is the first to let me know that something is amiss in the tank. I always look at this one first, then on to the others.
Xenia is also good, but does poorly when shipped, I would stay clear of this one until you have mastered the rest. Then buy locally.
Glad to see that you researched the flowerpot. Very pretty coral, but extremely hard to keep alive. Not necessarily your fault if it dies, but why buy something to have a poor outcome right off the bat?
What type of lighting do you have?

I've seen varying care levels for frogspawn as well, with the average seeming to be medium difficulty. Torch coral are very similar and the consensus I've seen is that they're easier than frogspawn.
