I dunno where the movie story is set but if you watch the original it was all filmed in Colorado where you can go from rocky mountains the the plains and even sand dunes in a few hours drive.
This movie and the original were filmed in the same locations. The story is set in Arkansas.
Is not the new one filmed in New Mexico and Texas? The original was mostly Colorado and a few scenes in California. None of the areas look like any part of Arkansas I've ever seen but pretty nice turf just the same.

You can see a con trail in the movie Gettysburg. There's a UFO in a scene from John Wayne's Rio Grande. Supposedly they were testing a prop for another movie and they didn't notice it in the background when they edited the movie. Watch above Wayne's right shoulder at the beginning of the clip, easier to see in full screen mode.

Well I saw the 2:35 show today and I liked it. To me, they followed the original storyline a lot so I assume that both movies followed the book closely. My wife didn't care for it but she does not like westerns. The movie moved slow and there wasn't your typical hollywood action but with movies like this, it is not needed. The story line and acting were great for the most part. I have always liked Jeff Bridges and his acting is awesome even in his crap movies. I was a little worried about seeing the movie today because I am one of the ones that hated No Country For Old Men and I thought the brothers would direct another movie like that. You did feel their directing take but the movie ended decently enough and I didn't have top yell out WTF after the credits started like I did with the other movie. I was also worried that "Jason Bourne" couldn't pull off a western roll but I thought he did a decent job. I really like Josh Brolin and would have liked to seen him more in the movie. Now the final fight scene was okay at best to me BUT I thought it had a more realistic feel and accepted it for that. If I had to score it, I would give it a close 7 out of 10.

I just got home from watching it and I am already planning on seeing it again this weekend. If you are a fan of westerns, or just great movies, you owe it to yourself to see this one.
It is hands down the best western that has ever been made and the best Coen Brothers movie ever made. and that is saying A LOT. it's better than "No Country For Old Men", "O Brother Where Art Thou", "Fargo". It's better than "Unforgiven", "Pale Rider", "The Outlaw Josey Wales".
the acting and dialogue is exactly what would be expected from the Coens. very memorable and funny one liners. the acting is A++ right down to the minor characters.
the gunfight finale is the best gunfight finale that's ever been filmed.
they used the old gospel song "Leaning On The Everlasting Arms" as the entire soundtrack and it is great.
I really can't speak highly enough of this movie, it is that great.
you forgot the best western of all time IMO "Tombstone"

LOL, best westerns of all time. You people need to watch stuff like the Searchers and Hang em high. Unforgiven and Tombstone are fine movies but they got nothin on those two. Fort Apache is right up there too.

Tombstone is a good movie and entertaining just as Young Guns is. I don't feel that either are as good or realistic as Unforgiven or the new True Grit.
"The Searchers" is the most overrated western in history. Explain to me how John Wayne sets out a day behind the Indians and it takes him 5 years to catch up with them. It's a really dumb, 'campy' movie.

unforgiven is certainly a great western and a different breed of western showing a little more of the real life type stuff rather than hollywood shoot em up.
So many great one liners and great memorable scenes in Tombstone though.
High plains drifter and pale rider are my two favorite eastwood movies maybe for the same reasons. lots of great one liners makes them memerable.

Almost as campy as believing a Marshal would have dragged a young girl on a manhunt.

For a bribe, sure. Don't confuse modern day marshals with 19th century marshals. many of those marshals were former outlaws how could be bought.

Oh Pa-leese. Someone of ill repute would have taken the money put the kid on a train home and hit the nearest cat house.

I feel asleep 3 times.....
I personally thought it sucked. I've seen absolutely ever single western out there (albeit I don't like the horse-tripping days). I can quote John Wayne (and Clint for that matter).

My wife hated it too but she doesn't like westerns. Even though I liked it, I can see how some people might not.
