OK overyone so my tank is pretty much done cycling
and i have a striped damsel in there right now. My next additions are going to be 2 percs
:cheer: ... BUT i wanst sure what kind to get? True or false? wild or tank raised? well i like the true perculas b/c i think those are the ones that get a little black coloring inbetween their white striped(correct me if im wrong)
i was just wondering if their was a preference for one over the other like if one had longer life or thrived better?
o and forgot its a 20g FO
thanks

typically tank raised are a little easier to acclimate, survival im sure is better, but i do know if you ever decide to get an anemone, they take to them much easier, and seem to flourish a little better and accept a wider range of foods because they ate it in the wild...

are the true percula clwons the one they get a little black inbetween the stripes (thats why i might choose those over the false)

I like tank raised false percs myself... both are nice fish though. I would go with a tank raised either way... they may or may not take longer to host than a wild clown but to me it just makes good sense to buy tank raised when possible.
treybomb, the black stripes are thinner on a Ocellaris Clown (False Perc) compared to the Percula (True Perc).

The ocellaris clown also goes by the name false percula because it closely resembles the true percula clownfish, A. percula, which came on the popular market first. The main differences are just that the markings of the true perc are darker and that it proported to be slightly more territorial, but they are basically very similar and closely related (there is another difference with the number of rays in one of the fins, I think, but I don't remember it). Either way, both species are very hardy. Specifically, the false perc makes an almost perfect beginner's fish for the community FO (fish only) marine tank, or the reef tank, large or small. Unlike the maroon clown, this is a small species that will stay small (they don't get much bigger than 3-4") and can be kept in a tank as small as 10 gallons in size (these are considered "nano"). The fact that they stick to a small territory and do not need lots of swimming room, unlike the hippo tang also makes them ideal for smaller tanks. They also have other good qualities. Unlike other clowns, they are not too quarrelsome, either with their own species or each other. They can be kept in small groups if they grow up together and will not try to kill other clowns, unlike more aggressive species (such as the tomato clown, which would attack a peaceful clown such as the false perc and try to kill it). They are hardy and will tolerate a wide range of marine conditions, within reason of course. And they are brightly colored and lastly, not hard to feed.

im sorry i didnt spell it out, i would assume you knew what i meant when i was talking about how they ate it in the wild meaning a "wild caught" versus a tank raised i may have forgotten to put in after the but, wild caught will take to an anemone..........

Treybomb,
I have had a pair of really awesome false percs in my tank since a month after the clean up crew went in. Cookie and Bozo are probably the most personable fishies I've met, along with their tank mate Sister Mary Angelica!! Cookie is hand fed at this point. I love my fish!!
Here's a pic of Cookie hanging out by one of her new buds, our devil's hand leather...Please to those who've seen it, bare with me, I love this picture... :jumping:

sebaes are very very very rare. The have a diagonal pointing mid stripe. Most likely it will be a clarikii,... go with a snowflake ocellaris if you can afford it. 200$ but it looks awesome.kind of like a piebald python if anyone knows what they looklike.
oceelaris are cheaper and are smaller. easier to keep in a 20g i would use them. go with 2 and they may pair off. and breed.
