New/Used? Checked the recalls? Last thing you need is the camshaft snapping going down the highway....

We just bought one.
Black Double Cab 5.7 w/6 speed auto.
We're gonna miss the 4Runner.

Congrats on the new ride. Pictures would be nice.
If your truck is newer than 2007, then you shouldn't worried about the camshaft issue.
Again congrats and enjoy,

It's a 2010 model. 22 miles on the odometer. No money down and our payments will actually decrease a little.
The cam issue was on 07s (the first year for the 5.7) and the Tundra is currently Toyota's fastest production vehicle with 381hp and 401ft lb torque.
Numbers I found were in the 13 second ET range at 105mph. (11 second ET with the supercharger)
I'm driving it to work tomorrow to work over the exhaust a little.
I'm trying to decide which wheels to bolt on it, when it's time for new tires.

Nice truck. I looked at Tundras back in 01 but ended up with an F-150. Built way way better at that time but I hear Toyota has improved their understanding of the "real" truck market and really improved it since then. At least you know you didn't support the AUM, United Autoworkers Mafia

I had a 84 Toyota 4x4 pick up. I still think that was one of the best looking trucks ever designed but their new ones look pretty sweet too. .

If the Taco was offered with the 4.7 I'd be driving a Taco. The dealer was out of V8 4Runners.
Reef, funny you mention that. My dad was a

(what? stupid word filter) hard-core UAW guy. Local 710 Kansas City. He was a steward at KW Dart and became a committeeperson and CAP Council member. I remember working the picket lines with him in the 70s. At the time it was just cool to hang out by the doughnuts they brought. Now I realize that the workers' wages bought those doughnuts.
Unions had a time and place in history. IMO, that's where they belong...history.

When I read this post I thought you were hitting the crack pipe a little early but DAM! Did a little searching and WOW!. Motor trend did a Super CHarged version with the better tires and stuff and got a 13 flat at like 93 out of the thing. I told the wife yesterday that we should trade off her Saturn and take advantage of the Dodge situation and grab a challenger. SHE WENT FOR IT! Now I think I need to convince her we really need a second truck

That's what started the whole thing. We called around to see what dealers were closing in our area. Only 1 we found had just a few cars left and wasn't willing to cut any smokin' deals, so we dropped by to see what Toyota had to offer.
FWIW, I was pretty disappointed with the Hemi Challenger we test drove.

From what I saw the "deal" on the challenger is the V8 below the SRT. 10 grand and 35 HP less.

It had 22 miles on it and a full tank of gas when we picked it up. (26 gal tank)
It now has 147 miles and under 1/2 tank of gas left.
Methinks they fudged on the MPG ratings a little. I'm afraid to actually check it. I'm hoping for close to 17 mpg avg after break in. Our 4.7 4Runner could get 21 mpg avg on our Oceanside to KC trips through the Colorado Rockies. I even got 20mpg when pulling my 57 from KC to Oceanside a couple years ago.
I think it will be a miracle if I even get close to 17 in the Tundra.
Spineylobster, what's your MPG and how do you drive it?

I average about 14 in the city and yesterday I drove home from the keys and averaged 19 on the drive. The truck gets horrible gas mileage, but I love having all that motor underneath me. I am hopinh it gets better soon but I just put 2000 miles on it and think this is the best its gonna get

Bought a 'new' 2008 holover MaxCrew Cab Tundra two months ago with the 5.7/TRD package to pull a horse trailer. Obviously when pullling the trailer the gas mileage is not good. No trailer: around town 13.8mpg; highway 19.
I have been happy with the towing capacity. It moves the 7500 lbs of trailer /horses with ease.

racing trucks. hahahahah why? I understand the more thing. Dont get me wrong. I have made the fastest production bike even faster. I have had plenty of cars

The reason I need "more" was the fact that I tow a 27 ft Oceanmaster and b4 I would need to get the big F-250's but this tundra has enough to pull the boat. On top of that the features that they throw in this truck are awesome.
Rear sliding window "down"
12 speaker stereo
navigation
those are just a few of my favorite, all for 25K.

Thats a good looking truck.
Black is a really nice color, but man it is a pain to keep it shiny.

Your miles will get better once the break in period is over, and 17mpg is dualable.
