for those of you who are having problems getting you tank to cycle, just take one of those little 19 cent feeder comet goldfish stick it in your salt tank and when the salt kills it bury it in the sand, then let it be, your tank will cycle in a few days...............or you could just use alot of live argonite sand and alot of live rock anyway...................thats my words of wisdom for the day, cyas

well, first many of us want the lr and ls anyway, so it is not a waste, but a good idea to use
2d, most of us don't want to cycle with fish, so we don't even use damsels anymore
so why would we want to put a goldfish in JUST to kill them? tge udea of not using fish, b/c the fish could die and it is hard on them

i have done this before, it took about a week to go through the cycle, i had a few pounds of live rock and a wet/dry system, it does work, i wasnt saying to fill up your tank with water and stick a dead fish in it, ment that you need to have your system(filter,pump ect...) set up but this will speed up the process of cycling by alot

10 yrs in the hobby and this is hte best you can come up with, to kill fish needlessly to cycl e a tank
put gold fish in wiht only the idea to kill them
i also agreee with anthem, it probalby won't completely cycle a tank, not in a couple of days, it may seem so if all you add is fish like clowns and damsels which would probably survive the cycle anyway, BUT i can pretty much guarentee no angel or butterfly will survive if put in on week 2

Takes a lil more than a week lol. My 54 -using raw grocery shrimp as the catalyst- is week 2 today and it took a week and a half for the Ammonia to spike and return to 0

the fact that your entering this hobby with the "how fast can I do this" attitude is a bad sign. I'm sure you've heard it before but just in case you missed it
PATIENCE is really one of the keys to success here.
Sorry you're getting so much grief for sharing your idea, but well, in case you haven't noticed people on this board tell it like it is-not alot of sugarcoating around here. And It's better that way, I assure you.
Oh yeah, and as hobbiests we've killed so many fish unintentionally, (even us experienced ones) it's just not right to do it on purpose. IMO
Good Luck though with your speedy cycle, and to the fish you'll be testing it with.

Just purchase some frozen silversides, and place them in the sand, it will serve the same purpose, and you will already have some fish food when the tank cycles.
I agree with the others, it will not complete the cycle within a few days, unless "a few days" means a few weeks. Of course if you have lots of live rock, and LS then it could be a few days, even without the fish.

I just can't see 3-4 days. I put 40 lbs dry sand and 40lbs live sand in my 54. Threw in 4 raw shrimp and still took a week and a half just for the ammonia spike and dropoff. Complete full cycle in 3-4 days ... just can't see it.
