ok i was wondering if a plastoc submersible pond pump would be okay to use to circulate the water that i will be using for waterchanges and to pump the water up to my tank so i wont have to lift up buckets or anything it is one my dad got and never used. also i have a question about lighting i saw what i think are some pretty good deals on pc lights on ahsupply and was wondering if these are good kits and do people usually put glass or anything in front the lights to prevent water from splashing on them or do they just have them mounting high enough not to have to worry about water splash and all that. i dont have a hood or canopy yet but i planned on DIY one i kinda have fun with those projects. do hoods just sit on the rim of the tank? if so im guessing the hood should be made light as possible

I bought a setup from ahsupply, and I'm very happy with it so far. I bought a dual 55 watt for $65. The instructions are easy.
As for the hood, you can have ahsupply send you the plans for the hoods that are shown on that sight. They look very simple.
My hood has rails that prop it up, this keeps the lights about 5 inches above the top of the aquarium.

yeah i saw that on thier sight i think id like to try and do my own though and just throw together a bunch of features i like from different hoods think im gonna get the set you mentioned since im gonna have fish only for a while and i would just like to have something brighter. is the 5 inches enough to keep saltcreep off of the lights?>?

I've only had it up for 2-3 weeks, but I don't even see any salt creep on the top of the aqurium.
Probably because I have a sump, and almost nothing in the tank, but the overflow, and two powerheads.
