Two fish die during water change

I have a 15 month old 70G reef tank and have been doing regular water changes. In the middle of doing a 15G water change today my Coral Beauty (which I have had for 12 months) and my Yellow Tang (which I have had for 2 months) both keeled over and died. This happened while I was siphoning water from the tank. I hadn't added any new water yet.
The only thing I did different this time was just prior to the water change I brushed some of the live rock to get get rid of detrius and this was in suspension until the filter removed it.
All my other fish 4 small Percula Clowns, 2 Green Chromis and a Tomini Tang showed no problems are are all OK.
I'm mystified as to what would cause this. Could it be shock or stress?
Has anyone else ever had this happen?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

Could there have been contaminants in the hose you use for changing. If I don't rinse the hose and allow it to dry I will get mold growing in it.
