I am asking everyones opinion on this one. i have a 75 gallon reef, fairly established, with only one fish a lawnmower blenny, would a purple and yellow tang be ok in it? i was thinking about getting both at my LFS cuz he was selling both for 60 bucks and they were only 1/2 an inch. thanks for your input

It is a lot to ask for in a 75 if there really small it might work for awhile but i never have had a purple and i think they require a larger aquarium than a 75. If they do start stressing you might have issues tangs can easily get ich and that is not something you want to deal with. I have a red sea sailfin and a powder blue in a 150 and they do scrap a little but they are medium sized fish. Get some other remarks from people and weight your options. But doing one or the other would probably be your best bet. Good luck with whatever you do. :happyfish

thanks for your feedback and i am looking forward to hearing other peoples opinions. one more question. when you know you are goin to buy two fish, is it better to buy on at a time or both, and into them to the tank at the same time

If your system can handle the extra bio load, it's better to introduce them at the same time . It would help with territory issues. I did not do that when I introduced another tang and it's dog and cat in there every now and again.
As far as the 75 issue, you will get alot of opinions and heated some will be. It's not advised as they both will outgrow the system. Can it be done. Yes, it has been done with great success and it has been done with great loss. Bottom line; it's not reccomended.

Introducing them at the same time would be better. Also make sure they have enough to eat, as a lack of food is a cause of fighting.

They can get really really nasty. Could be quite a fight, IMO, and not the best long term choice for that size tank. If they are only an inch or 2, then they might have awhile to grow there, but ultimately you will need to either trade them back or get a larger tank. But it is their nature to be territorial, so I would expect that there will be aggression. If one submits, that may be the end of it, but it can also lead to an ick outbreak.
Tough call, IMO. I personally wouldn't suggest it.

I absolutely would not put a yellow with a purple---too much alike. You are asking for trouble there.
