u v sterilizers

I am looking to buy a new ultraviolet sterilizer for my 75 gal. tank. Can any one recomend any specific brand and type? I'll probably get one that can handle at least a 120 gal. tank(you gotta think about the future- right? lol).

hey i have a 75 gallon reef tank and i am really glad i got a uv sterilizer, i got the LifeGard Uv sterilizers, its the QL series its 25 watt. protects up to 200 gallons and kills agle up to 1500 gallons , i paid $289 but thats because the fish store was closing but there around $450 and its great, it was alot better than the 8 watt ones they tried to sell me.

When you say Lifegard do you mean Rainbow Lifegard? I see Pet warehouse sells the 25 Watts for $165. But I see nothing about the QL series. Just wondering if we are talking about the same thing. Thanks!

hmm....i hate to say it but you got ripped off big time even at $289. How long ago did you purchase it? The Reef Fanatic online store sells the 25W QL series for $135. Thats at http://www.reeffanatic.com/uvs-rainbow.htm Let me know if i'm looking at the wrong one but it looks the same to me. Thats what I am considering buying.

BTW, is a 25W model too much for a 55 gallon tank? I know almost nothing about these things and i just wanted to know if you could go overboard and get too big a model for a tank. Thanks

I have a 15 watt for my 75 gallon FO tank...
It seems to be doing a great job...
I have 2 fluval 404 filters, so my UV just hooks right into the return of one of them... So far, this setup is kickin' butt

Did you mean to type algea. If a UV will help keep algea down I want one.

my mistake, mine is made for large ponds and is alot bigger than the ones at that site. and it does help with alge
