A little background. A while back while doing a water change, I accidentally ended up with a power head aimed incorrectly. Well, I didn't catch it until the next day when I got home from work...sand everywhere, all blown out from a corner of my tank. I corrected the powerhead and very carefully over the next week or so rearranged and moved the sand back into the corner...I mean, it was down to the glass bottom.
Everyone seemed to be doing just fine until this week when my frogspawn started looking a little sad. In total, he has 12 heads and 3 of those are shrunken down and don't inflate. Today after work, I noticed that 2 more heads were doing the same thing, but later those 2 looked just fine. Other than not inflating, those other 3 heads look pretty normal...just in sleeping mode. That part of my fs is also under the part of my tank where the center brace makes a shadow...would that be it?
I took some water tests just about 20 minutes ago to see if I could figure out what was going on. Here are my results: Oh, 37 gal reef.
pH 8.2
ammonia 0 to trace...hard to read in the lighting that I had.
nitrites 0
nitrates 0
calcium 380 (was up to 420 until I used IO salt for a couple of changes
)
I'm thinking that the sand episode may have caused a spike that I wasn't aware of? Or is the fact that the calcium has dropped a bit the problem? Or could it be the shadow from the center brace. The frogspawn has been in the same spot for over a year, and never had a problem...just grew and grew (I got it with only 3 heads).
I'm planning on a big water change this weekend, hopefully that'll make a difference. I'm attaching pics below, the first with flash and second...well, you can guess.
Any :help: is GREATLY appreciated...let's figure this out.
