I finally got a replacement yellow tang yesterday, checked him over real good, thought he looked fine. So this morning I was looking at him and lo and behold, he's got a few black spots! I ordered the formalin on line because no one around here carries it. It's being sent out priority tuesday but with the holiday I'm afraid I might not get it until friday. Will the tang be allright until then? Is their anything I can do in lthe meantime?

bump, there is a picture of a yellow tang with black ich on the disesae page, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. I think I've also read that freshwater dips are ineffective, that formalin is the only treatment. Anybody know of ANYTHING else I can do? I probably won't get the medicine until friday. Does black ich kill fish?

all ich kills fish ........ my sincere opinion is , do a freshwater dip on him , put garlic in the water , and then stick him in qt

I agree with Oceanists, I’d pull him out of the display tank and get him in a QT tank. Also, you may want to try the hyposalinity method with the tang. What else is in the tank with the sick tang? It’s likely that the rest of the tank has been contaminated and you may want to run it fallow to avoid future outbreaks. If not, there is a good chance that once you cure and reintroduce the tang it will be stricken with Ich again.
