ULTRASONIC ALGAE REMOVERS
Algae are found throughout the world and can cause nuisance problems in water treatment plants, drinking water supplies, receiving water ponds, lakes, swimming pools and cooling towers. They use not chemicals or produce any chemicals and are considered environmental friendly. These were introduced to the European markets several years ago and have proven to be beneficial. The units are based on the production of ultrasonic sound waves which attack algae cells. Aquasonics patented technology is developed and based on the resonance effects of ultrasonic waves on the algae cell. These are different frequencies applied, in such a way that the algae cells are subjected to vibrations which they can least resist. The aim of these resonance effects is directed at the vacuole of the algae cell, which is present in practically all metabolically active algae cells. By ripping the vacuole, this effectively destroys and kills the algae cell. A submerged transducer that is specifically designed and purposely built to be small and water resistant generates the ultrasonic vibrations. The Aquasonic devices are used in horticulture, aquaculture, potable and wastewater applications. The transducer is capable of emitting ultrasonic vibrations up to a range of 100 meters (325 feet) covering a radius of 180 degrees. The transducer has to be completely submerged under water. Because the angle of the transducer has to be placed to a side wall or in a corner of the water reservoir or pond. Care must be taken to make the transducer cable long enough to accommodate and fluctuations in the water level. Besides killing algae, it also deals with fungi (i.e. Pythium is killed 100% by the ultrasonic waves). Smaller versions of the Aquasonic model, like the Poolsonic and the Aquatank are designed for the use in swimming pools and medium sized water surfaces, fishponds and cooling tower basins. The Aquanet is used for smaller applications such as in hobby ponds, large aquariums, etc. The Aquasonic model (RF-AS1) will not only kill all present algae, but in time will also clean the reservoir of all kinds of other growths; after a while, one will see that the thick bacteria layer has disappeared. Units include a transducer, cable and a electronic box. The box is made of polycarbonate with a good UV stability. Although the box is weather resistant it is recommended that it is placed in a protected area. The cable between the transducer and the electronic box should never be extended. If needed it is always better to bring the power source closer to the water area to be treated. The cable can be cut to the desired length or place in a crisscross pattern. If place in a roll the coil of wire may function as an induction coil which might influence the wave shape of the ultrasonic signal. When running you should hear a little click every few seconds, simultaneously with the red LED control lamp going on and off.
