Depending whether there are lots of rocks it could have damaged itself on. Best guess tho is that some other fish took exception to this poor thing. I hate to say it but I would remove it since the injury you report is to severe to do much with unless you had a spare tank to move it to and try some treatment on it.

if you have a small hospital tank id put him in there and treat him with something that will prevent infection. but that wont really fix the problem cause youll eventually want to put him back in there and itll probably just happen again. this is unless he gets alot bigger. im confused about how many fish you have. do you have 4 clowns and 3 chromis? how big of a tank is this, what kind of clown fish?

I had this happen to an emperor snapper from my niger trigger. I picked up one of the small acrylic critter houses from a pet store. They are various sizes and have the snap-on vented tops with an acrylic door.
I drilled several holes in the acrylic container so that water could flow through it and placed my snapper securely in the containter. The container had a handle on top that I tied it to the center support bar on the upper frame of my 90 gallon. It was kind of an aquarium in an aquarium. He did not mind and he recovered nicely. When I fed the fish, I would open the lid to his container and put some food in it for him.
After about three weeks, his fins, eye and tail were healed and I released him. Unfortunately, the trigger went for him again and I had to return the trigger.
