Uncured Live Rock? A good idea?

Hi Everyone,
I just purchased a 60 gallon aquarium (DAS) and I want to make this one a reef tank. I currenlty have a fish only tank that has been up and running for about a year. My LFS tried to sell me uncured Live rock at 5.99 a pound and said that it will cure while I was cycling my tank (4-6 wks). The rock is Marshall Island live rock - my LFS said is some of the best rock around. Any suggestions? Is this a good idea? Anyone ever cure there own rock? How do I go about doing it? Thanks for your help.

Curing it while the tank is cycling is a bood idea. It will also help the cycle along. I'd say go for it. Just keep the lights off for a week. And provide good circulation.STEVE

I say do it too. It cyles your tank without torturing fish or having to fish out DAMNsels later. Not to mention most of the time it will cycle faster and stabilize your tank quicker just dont add any fish until its done cycling. Does your lfs have cured?
