Undulated triggerfish

I have a 3" Undulated Triggerfish for about 3 months now. He still hides in a cave coming out for food and thats it. Not the usual trigger behavior...
Any ideas?
Hes with a Coral grouper 4"
and a 3" Domino Damsel

anyone that has seem my posts prior, im building a huge tank in my basement. Its going to be 12'x4'x3' !! Livestock is still in question. Im not getting sharks, I want big rare fish. Any Ideas??

I had one About 1 1/4" that claimed a home in the rocks and rarely came out other than for food and to harass any fish that came by his home. He eventually killed my 10" Queen Angel. He attacked it's eyes and that was the end of my Undulated I took him back to the store I got him from. The strange thing is that in the store he was in a 20 long with a Blue Manderin so I thought , wow a peaceful Undulated. WRONG! I assume he had no place to claim as his in the 20 but once he had a place to call home his attitude changed.

I always heard undulated are ticking bombs waiting to go off. My guess is you will find the grouper and damsel gone before long. Definitly a fish for a species only tank.

They are usually a very shy and reclusive fish until they feel 100% comfortable with their surroundings.
They are, however, extremely aggressive when they get older and will not tolerate any tankmates.

ive been working at a LFS for about 4 yrs and we commonly get small undulateds in about that size. It is very common for them to hide for awhile. I have also own my fair share of them. They sometimes will kill other animals off like they were planning it all along. I believe it is just something with dominance even if they were the last fish and smallest added. They got some guts. I personally would keep em cuz i like their style especially if you have a grouper. They usually wouldn't just kill the grouper you would just see a couple fin nipps at first and that would be your alarm to remove someone.

mine was the same way, shy and everything. he got ich and i qt'd him until he got better but somehow he got bit in the eye or something and is now blind in one eye. even for a fish that is blind in one eye, hes kinda crazy about other fish swimming by his cave.
