unknown worms

I have recently discovered some worms in my tank. They are about 4 inches long. They are black in the middle and pink on each end. Does any one know what they are and are they bad?

Most likely bristle worms ... They are fine. There are millions of varieties of them and only a handful are bad ... They are okay.

WOW, you sound a lot "calmer" than I did when I saw my first bristle... But alas, they are good, as Aaron C stated.
