unnatural tanks

i got this idea when i saw a plane in someones tank. post pics of your own or any tanks that have unnatural aquascaping. it can be mixed or just fully fake setups. i guess i prefer the natural look but i thought this would be interesting. who knows, i might just sink a ship in my own one day.

I've got a fiber-glass structure (ancient greek look) of which I am getting corals to grow on. So far I have gotten some gsp to spread onto it. Next I am going to glue some zoa frags to the columns; and maybe some mushrooms to the base. My chromis sleeps inside the structure.

Very cool....I had thought about taking some white marble and cutting a shape out that resembled the "trucker babe" that you see on mud flaps and then encrusting it in pink palys.....

Well this is not mine, so I can't claim it....wish I could....guy just outside of KC owns several gorgeous display tanks....
270 reef, 125 aggressive, and this Gorgeous mantis tank....has a pirate ship in it..so it qualifies as the mixed submission...LOL...

thanks maelv. I didn't realize how unique it was until after I got it. I like the ability to divide the tank, like the in the 3rd pic with the plastic mesh. This allowed me to introduce new fish without the others picking on them, giving time to acclimate.
BTW, can't wait to see your new tank... started setting it up yet?

I liked the castles at first, but then started to see pics of other people's reef tanks. I knew I wanted to go reef, and the castles greatly limited my room for rock and places to place coral. So out came the castles. My reef has a looong way to go still. But hope to have it full within a year.

I saw that in the third picture. I thought it was cool...so is it permanantely separated like you have it shown, or were you acclimating?

Thanks Hef....well things, LIFE, happens...I had to sell the house tank left behind and in the wall in KC...and moved into a rental house in San Antonio. Not sure how long we will be staying here...nice house, but not sure if we want to buy....which is an option (owner wants out of this house).....
If we buy this house, it will be another in wall display...with all equipment in the garage looking into the main living room. If not, the 220 will have to wait a little longer. I don't want to spend all the time and effort of setting something up when I know it will be coming down in a year or so....
I am going through withdrawals, so I went out and got me a 20 gallon long to set up and have something to look at in the mean time....I just finished up the calfo overflow, and siliconed it in place, and have tested it..NO LEAKS..woo hoo. The rocks come in this evening, the bulkheads I ordered come in Friday....so I hope to have it start cycling this weekend...Initial plans are to make it a mixed reef, primarily softies and LPS, and then throw 2 picasso clowns in there.....those are the PLANS, but we all know how plans go....they can change...

thanks all... I got it used. The fella bought it around 1990. It is made by SeaClear and it still seems structurally sound, even with it's age. I do love acrylic. Except a little more of a pain to clean - but the newer acrylic used now is better. Anyway, I bought the tank, stand, and filter for $150.
Here's what it looked like when I bought it. Novus acrylic buffer does wonders.

Have you concidered giving the connector tubes a black background to match the two main tanks? Just a thought.

that is a thought. I had not considered it before. It might make the fish stand out more when swimming through. I might take some black paper and take it to the back of the tubes.
Here's a pic of the clowns in the upper tube.

I did see a tank with a ton of it... I forget which thread - but it looked pretty awesome, but it cost about as much as the real thing. And you have to clean it...

my fake coral tank (55g)
i had to tear it all down since two of the fake corals starting leaching dye into the tank. several fish kept dying and i couldnt figure out why. it wasnt until i took a few pieces out to clean them, i left them on my sink to dry and they left a puddle of red and yellow dye on my sink!
poor fish, if only i would have known. i ripped every fake piece out and i never had another death since. the rock is being removed in a few weeks, i have live rock curing in a bin at the moment
