Up-grading tank help.....

I am upgrading to a 125gal tank from a 55gal
Do I have to use all live sand or can I mix it with another kind of sand on the bottom and live sand on top?
and should i set the new tank up and let it cycle before moving anything from my 55gal tank? How would I use my live sand in the 55gal?

I did the same up grade. The easy way would be to set up the tank where you want it.
Then do all the things that need to be done, leak test, power heads, skimmer, heaters,fung and sump if your doing that.
As for cycle, you could use all the out water from water changes from your 55 and fill it slowly, it might take awhile but you fish and corals will be in good healt for the move.
Your sand should be removed with the water changes and added to the 125 with the water.
i have done this twice now on my tank, it works.

Note: try to do the aquascaping outside the tank then put it in, scratches suck.
