Upgrade hob to canister?

These days people are staying away from canisters because of maintenence and nitrate issues.100 lbs of lr and deep sand bed and protein skimmer, along with your HOB IMO is very sufficient..

You would have to clean it out at least weekly. I would pick a canister that is very easy to open up and maintain. I would only use filter floss and carbon in the container. Every week make sure and throw the filter floss out and add new filter floss. There is a product at wal-mart called poly-fiber pillow filling. You get a huge bag for like $4 alot cheaper than buying aquarium floss.
If you go with a canister it will help with detrious and also give you a place to add carbon. It would be more for water polishing.
