:hi: Just gotta say I'm totally jealous. Can't wait to see pictures. People do big water changes. That's more than half again as much as you have. But if you are putting in all your water, sand, rock, ect.you should be ok. You might want to be slow in your new fish. Good luck and keep us posted.

there is no such thing as established tank water. the beneficial bacteria that are part of the nitrogen cycle are not found in the water in any great numbers: they live in the live rock and sand bed. yes, disrupting the sandbed will most likely cause a spike in the chemistry of your tank.

+1. IMO, you would be better off just using new sand.

I would move all animals to smaller tanks like 20gal or 40gal. So they can be safe for 2 weeks. Do that first then Upgrade to the 500gal

i nuked my old tank , i dont have any animals in it .
If you nuked the tank, why would you want to use it in the new tank? If you want things to go right in the new tank, I would start by going the safe route. This means using new sand. It doesn't have to be live. I would try to add around 20 lbs live sand to dead sand. This is just my .02 and you will do what you want.

i nucked it but the water will be filterred with carbon skimmers chemichals and UV for a month so i think it will be ok cuz i dont want a wait 4-6 months for sps and some fishesh like blue tang or anthias . I'm dieing so i dont have much time left for the cycle this time . just wanna go with a BAAANG . i'm in not kidding
