Upgrading my Skimmer Question

I want to upgrade my protein skimmer I use on my 72gal tank. I also want to upgrade to a larger tank in the future. Is it possible to buy a skimmer that I could use on a 125-150gal and use it on my 72gal? What skimmer would you suggest for me?
Thanks,

I wanted to find a nice used one for around $150. Price isnt a major issue because I'll be using George Bush's Stimulus Check and I'm willing to stimulate the economy for my tank.

I just picked up the MR-1 and I love it. It is on my 75 gallon.

Is your MR -1 loud at all?

I do not hear it at all. I have it on a 75 gallon. This setup is in my living room and I sit about 7 foot away from my tank and watch tv and do not hear anything other than my overflow on this tank as I do not have a drilled tank. It is quiet I am messing with the becket. I picked mine up for 220 from my lfs and I can honestly say its one bad mother.

sump with mag 12 no noise.

You have some serious equipment man. That skimmer is huge, I wanted to put it in my sump but I dont think I'll have room for it. Thanks for sharing.

It will fit in the sump under a standard stand as mine is. It will go in the sump but I am going to make another baffle and make a refuge in there so I want as much volume as possible.

Does anyone have any opinions on the AquaC EV-180 Protein Skimmer?
Here are the specs.
# Tank Size: 60-200 gallons
# Recommended pumps: Mag Drive 7 or Rio 3100
# Height: 20"
# Footprint: 6.0" x 9.2"
# Foam tower volume: 135 cubic inches
# Flexible design for in-sump applications
# For in sump use only
# Can be used with the Auto Waste Collector
# Designed to run in sumps WITHOUT BEING RAISED. The output gate valve has been increased to a height of 10", which means that as long as your sump level is 9" or lower you will not need to worry about fluctuations having an impact on skimming consistency.
# The addition of a precision ball valve for airflow control allows the aquarist to fine tune the skimmer`s output. Unlike most other high performance skimmers in this class, the EV is remarkably silent. The spray injection system does not generate the sucking noises typical of venturi and Beckett units.
# The improved "Twist-Lock" collection cup and cap makes for a secure, flanged connection without the need for set screws or other locking type unions. Simply twist to crack the seal (EPDM gaskets) and removal requires a scant 1/4" clearance.
# Increased contact time = more protein removal. The size of the mixing box has been increased on all models by approximately 40%. To accommodate the extra foam the skimmers now feature taller and wider reaction towers, as well.

i just got the bermuda 3-c for my 75 and so far very impressed, its a spray injection of some sort, but unlike aqua c you only have to adjust the gate valve no air adjustment along with gate valve adjustment.

When they say the maximum sump height is 10.5'' what happens if your sump is deeper than that?
you boost it up on some type of plastic like the stuff used to make frag racks. i found that the surface skimmer for my remora(have it hanging on a sump) does a great job in holding up a skimmer. better than it worked on my skimmer

It is called egg crate and you pick it up at home depot or lowes. It is what you see used as a light cover on utility lights a lot.

yup tell them you want light diffusser there are other similar products but thats the easiest to get. remember if you use zip ties to hold sections together to get the ones that use plastic not metal to keep the from opening up
