Hi all I'm planing on upgrading from my 15g tall to a 28g or larger bow front.
Now my question is when I get my new tank if I take out the old filter that has all the bacteria in it and put it into the new tank along with the "new" filter will this help prevent a full cycle? Or will this just mess everything up? I would like to get the fish into there new home asap. I don't have the new tank yet still saving the money but my tank has become to small for the fish and I don't want them to die so i'm doing water changes every couple days and checking my levels.

if you take the old filter from the smaller tank and put it into the larger tank the cycle will not be as long but there will still be a cycle

Yes that is correct, and you will have a mini cycle like mentioned. Also add all the water, sand etc from the old tank too. Have your new water ready to go as well. I did this a few times and there was not problems at all, (water, sand, fish etc all go in)
Good luck....
