UPS backup

Hoping to get some feedback on what most are using to power their sump pump in case of power outage. Computer UPS's or have I missed a simpler system to keep the pump running a few hours. Brands places to buy appreciated.

I have several UPS's from APC. I have been uncomfortable leaving them under the tank as I don't think they have been designed for this usage.
I keep them hooked up to my computer components. If there is a blackout, I turn the computers off and plug in the heater and a single cannister filter. This system has worked well for the short times I have had to use it so far. I don't know how long the units last. (They are guaranteed to keep my computer running for up to 20 minutes after a blackout).
Welcome to the boards!

I don't think there really is a simple answer to this issue. If all you have to worry about is blackout with no storm issue, and you can afford it, it is best to hook up to a generator to your house [so it would run without having to manually start it]. This means big money.
As far as the UPS goes, I think it would be very short term power supply. To get a longer running system, you are looking at hundreds of dollars.
Right now I am thinking of a deep cell battery configuartion myself. Water, if your you can get some details from your BF on this, I would appreciate it. What does he expect the run time to be with this setup? How is it hooked up?

deep cycle marine battery with atleast a 800-1000w inverter and you should be fine for a couple of hours. you can get inverters from best buy or other electronic places. i got me a generator last year after the new york michigan, ohio blackout that lasted 2 days in august.

How long did the blackout last? Do you have it wired into the house? What kind did you get?

beth the blackout was for 2 days luckily in august so i didnt have to worry about heaters but i only had battery operated air pumps for circulation and everyone knows there not the greatest.
i picked up a coleman max 6500w( 55000w ) running with an 11 hp briggs and straton engine, havent had it wired to house yet because the parts are kinda costly if power goes out i will have to run ext cords everywhere. i got the generator at costco for 489.00(good price) from what i've seen since.hth definately worth the cost, i have a 180 reef and 135 aggressive and 120 pirahna tank too much to lose.
