I have gone the other way for my 10 gal. I have 5 snails in my tank, one very small crab, one shrimp.
Had to get rid of my zebra crab, 5 min after placing the snails in the tank he was right there, turned one over and was in the process of having a snack...
Gone he is, crabs are neat but in my opinion the snails are the best. I put these snails in and I let my glass get a green film on it. Two days later the glass is spottless.
Crabs also are always fighting for others shells, some are mean little buggars.
I will keep the one crab if he does not touch any snails, but I much prefer to have snails and shrimp.
Just my opinion.....:happyfish

Debbie--
You're right:D
I wouldn't recommend the crabs, and (hate to say it) am waiting for them to....uh.....go to davy jones' locker. The best way to go are the snails. I was just stating what was in my tank......and I, like you, can't stand to see a turf war in something which is suppose to be relaxing:joy:

Crabs may look nice but if you got corals i wouldn't recommended. Snails or a peppermint shrimp is what i recommend. I had them and no problems so far, plus the peppermint shrimp will scavage leftover food.

cleaner shimp I highly recommend. with my experience, i have never had trouble with blue leg hermits. red legs and tiger hermits, yes, but blue legs, never had a problem. pepermint shrimp are good additions as well. the pick up scraps AND, they will rid you of any parasitic anemones if you have any
. also snails are great additions. also i have found that conches rid you of algea and mine ended up eating red slime off of my sandbed! so in a nut shell, my suggestion for a 10 gallon clean up crew:
-10 blue legs
-10 turbo snails
-1 or 2 large snails
-3 half inch conches
-1 cleaner shimp
-1 or 2 pepermint shrimp
hope this helps. it worked for me:yes:

ok so i need these guys in my nano because the algea is getting real bad? They will be ok for the bio load?

what do you have in your nano already as far as bioload, inverts are generally not to bad. Are you leaning towards a nano reef or hospital? I would hook up a cleaner or peppermint like stated above and a two or three turbos, a couple of scarlet reef hermits"if you want hermits", and mabye a couple of nassarius snails for your sandbed. A fighting conch would be cool but I am not sure about in a nano.
