You have to clean the sand. Unless your suicidal. It doesn't matter if they told u its clean. CLEAN IT. I had a friend that didn't and he had poising!!. You know what that means.

Umm......before i posted this i put about 1 lb of sand in so should that hurt any thing in there?? and it was all the way at the bottom so...and i did a 5inch DSB but then the rest of it i took my food strianer and some screen from my screen door and put the screen in and i had 4 layers of screen and i then i took my water hose and sprayed it through the sand and had a pan under it and got all the fine sand and put that into my tank then i put 20lbs of LS in over that so did i clean the sand right??

Assuming that you were using a reef safe sand that did not contain metal, etc. the washing is not that big of deal. You want to get the worst of the dust out, but do not want to lose all of the fine particles. Yours should be fine. I would recommend topping off with some live sand. It doesn't have to be a lot, if it is good stuff. Also adding ifauna kits helps to develop the bed much more quickly. You can never get too many critters in the DSB. Good luck.

The only thing I'd worry about is that quickcrete has quite a bit of silica in it and you might get diatom blooms from it.

That seems to be a trouble-some method of cleaning sand. It would have been fine if you had just placed the sand in a bucket 5-25 lbs at a time, and run water over it until it runs clear. All you have to do is stick your hand in, and run it through your sand to get all of the muck down in the bottom. Oh well, whatever works.

DAB the kind of quickrete that i got doesn't have silica in it i got the Play Sand kind in the white bag not the all porpose wich has lots of silica in it
and i got 20lbs of LS to top it off with and i have a 5inch DSB in the deepest part of the DSB wich is about half of the tank then it drops down about 1/2 inch for the other siade of then tank

Oh good, I wasn't able to find quickcrete without silica. Where did you get it? Is it brownish or white? Maybe I'll try it in my 20 gal.

I got it at the Midwest City Home Depot (you could try Lowes also) and it's a light brown color but it has turned whiter in the 24hrs or so that it been in there
and i took your advice and went to Crystel Clear Aquatics and that guy helped me out alot on what to do and how to do it and i bought my LS there too and my skimmer so that guy will be getting my business alot in there for dang near everything i buy
BTW if you get it make shur you strian it like i did because it'll make it look better

Yeah his name is Dave and he has always given us good advise. I'll be going by there tomorrow...hmmm I've sent him so much business lately maybe he'll give me a discount :D I think I'll try the quickcrete like you bought in my 20 gal. Thanks

No prob DAB and gues what I'll be in there tomorrow also to let him test my water because I'm reading PH 8.3 Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 nitrates 20 salinity 1.022 cal. 340 and the rest i dunno because i have no test kits for em so i'm gonna bring some water in there and see what his kits say and my ammonia and everything has already shot through the roof once and then droped in 2 days so i think i'm ready for my cleaner shrimp like i've been wanting for SOOOOOOOOOO long
BTW do you know if he charges for doing tests on my water? and do you know what the price of his cleaner shrimp are? and when will you be in there tommorow?? because i'm leaving to go up there right after school is out wich is 2:50pm but i'll be going sooner when this week on friday because school (AKA the hell hole) will be out
