Using a Sump

I have little idea about the constitution of a SUMP:
I heard you can use a ten gallon tank and a protein skimmer, air pump, hoses and possibly a UV sterilizer.
Describe the makeup of your SUMP. I've yet to come across a book that talks about it.

well i have far from what some would call a good looking sump, and ill be honest its not designed with looks in mind, im useing my skilter 400 i had on the display tank, along with a remora protein skimmer, inside the skilter i have a pump running water though the uv then back into the filter, i also have the heater in there too
i dident use baffles nor did i use bioballs but thats usally the design that people look for.
im just wondering why would u want an airpump/tubeing in your sump, i mean if you have a protein skimmer it would cause enough air in the tank, as well as the sump water ripple will cause enough air extange, i say that either bio balls, an eco system(like ONLY macro algae to use as filteration) or another mechacial filter(like how i have it set up) would be pretty good, im happy cause i got to keep my skilter and keep biological filteration but yet move it to the bottom sump freeing up space and makeing my tank look better

I built a sump about a month ago. I only have a 46g so I wanted to get as much equipment out of the tank as possible. It's a very simple design that only took a couple hours while drinking. If you search for "Finally, pictures of my tank", or link through my profile, you can see it there.
