Using sand to cycle?

i'm in the process of setting up a marine aquarium. i have a w/d, undergravel, poweheads, crushed coral. i'm thinking of using bermuda live sand in place of crushed coral. the sand is fine so i wouldn't be able to use the undergravel. will my tank cycle with this sand? is there anything special i need to do? appreciate the help!

the rock says...
agree with ranger, but i would mix up the sand with the "crushed coral". it will give a nice look to the substrate and it also beneficial with the different sized granules
