Hey Gang,
Its me again. No i dont work for home depot, but i do go there alot. I noticed that they carry a full of utility water pumps. Can i use one of those utility water pumps for my wet-dry sump? They much cheaper than store aquirum pumps. I am not being cheap about it. I am just trying to use my dollar wisely. I am sure it will be much noisier. Any one have any experience with it???? thanks...

It's not the noise, It's the metal parts inside that will either corode,or contaminate your tank. Not a good idea. But I do use one for water changes. Put a short garden hose on it and dip it in the tank,In seconds I have 10 gallons out. Then the hose in the tank and pump into the bucket of premixed water and a second later I'm done. It does a 20gallon water change in less than FIVE minutes. STEVE

depending on what they have..... as long as the prop was heavy plastic or ceramic with a stainless steel rod ,,,, it should be ok...I'll have to check them out myself....

Hey Mr. Salty,
I also checked on the utility pump at home depot. They carry the brand called Flotec. I called up flotec this morning and they said that they made a new pump that would not rust and is specificily for aqurium. It is made of plastic and stainless steel. The model number is something 1200. It can pump 1200 gal/hour. It that too much to my 110gal tank?
