UV light and tempature rise

Hi all
I am new here as far as posting but have been reading for a while. Excellent site!!
Any way I have just finished my cycle in my 90gal FO tank and have turned on my protein skimmer and UV light about a day ago for the first time. It appears that the temp in mytank has gone up to around 88deg F from a normal 82-84. My questions are is it possible that my UV light is causing this extra heat. I am using an AQUA ultraviolet 25watts. Also is this to much wattage for this size tank? If so Why? Thanks

The size of the UV is determined by the flow rate. How fast are you pumping water through this 25 watt unit?? I have the Aqua 15 watt on my 130,and it's doing a great job.As for the temp,,,I kinda doubt if the UV or the skimmer have anything to do with it...

Thanks for the quick response Mr. Salty. I am using a Supreme Pondmaster Mag drive pump Model 7 which pumps 700gph. I have roughly 5 feet of 3/4 tubing. Hope this helps.

This is strange. I also have a 90 gallon FO and my temperature was always 78 degrees. I just replaced my RIO 2500 with a Mag 7 and added a Berlin turbo skimmer at the same time which is powered by its own required pump. My temperature is now around 84 degrees and steady. As I added both at the same time, I don't know which one is to blame, but one of them definitely caused the change.
Neither the Mag nor the Berlin pump feel hot or even warm so I am at a loss. My fish seem fine and don't seem to mind the change so I'm not that worried about it.

The u/v can definately be the cause. They are warm and the water runs past an intense bulb so the water most definately is warmed. You are not overpowered on the u/v but you may be over pumping for an effective kill rate.
