i found this UV light on craigslist for $35. its 15 watts and is labeled AQUA BRAND UV LIGHT.
i've heard that these things kill good bacteria, but i've also heard that they help make water crystal clear. my tank has real bad brown "suspended algae" and i read that these can help. should i invest the $35 to clear up my tank. if i only run it for 9 hours a day (hooked up to my light sched) would it be ok?
what are the pros and cons of UV and would it help kill the suspended algae i have? also, is $35 for a 4 month old 15watt UV light a good deal for a 50 gallon total water volume system?
