I was wondering if it was o.k. to install a UV light in my reef tank. My LFS said they don't recommend it. What should I do, they sound like a great thing to have. Will it hurt my corals and fish? Please advise. Thank you!

are you wanting to put a UV tube above your tank? Or just a UV filter?
If its a UV tube above your tank I would advise against it. UV rays can bleach things out, give the fish sunburns, kill any micro critters that live in the tank.
If its a UV filter I have seen them working in reef tanks. Heard they help reduce fish disease, algae, and other stuff. Just make sure its on the return side of you filter.
