is there a difference between UV lights and VHO lights? what kind do i need for a 300 gallon tank 30 inches tall, 8 ft long, 2 ft long, i am trying to prevent ich and disease in a fish only setup.

VHO mean Very High OUtput and they are high output florescent lights used as lighting for your tank.
UV sterilizers uses an ultraviolet light in order to kill free-swimming parasites, algae and bacteria that flows thru the lighted sterilizer. Sterilizers are rated, so you should get one that is rated for your size tank. However, many hobbyst who keep reef tanks don't use this type of filtration as it can kill off phytoplankton--food needed by the reef. However, in a fish only tank, or fish and live rock tank, I believe that the UV is a good piece of equiptment to have to aid in the prevention of parasites.
