UV sheilding for halides

I was wandering how many people out there put a glass top on there reef with Halide's and how many run with a open top with no sheilding is it neccessary or not.

Mine is wide open.I would think that glass would just get glazed over with baked on salt.You would end up spending more time cleaning,or scraping,than enjoying the view.
