Hello I am new to salt water aquria. I am now cycling my 55 Gallon tank with 5 damsels and a 5lb piece of live rock. I have a wet dry filter with carbon added. I have been doing a lot of reading and it seems like a UV Sterilizer is a definite must. Do people really use them, and if so what brand is good. Any other tips would be greatly welcomed.
Thanks Lydell

Some have had luck with them, but when researching what these do, I decided against it.
You are familiar with UV-A and UV-B light, right?
UV sterilizers produce UV-C light. Nothing can survive this type of ultraviolet light. It not only kills the nuisance algae and bacteria, but also the good. Many inverts live on these microorganisms that a uv sterilizer kills.
They are very popular in the pond hobby, where you want absolutely no bacteria or algae.
