UV sterilizer setup

I've got UV sterilizer connected to the last section of a sump where the return pump is connected. Is this a right way or it should be connected before the bio balls secton, or even in the water entrance. The current setup is:
mechanical filtration - protein skimmers - bio filtration - UV and Carbon at the same last section.
Dima.

Actually,A UV should be hooked up so that clean filtered water passes through it.This will keep the inside from getting too nasty. But the more important question pertains to the flow rate...You should look at the specs of your unit, and compare them to the flow rate of the returm pump you are using.Flow rate determins how much, and what a UV kills.Slow flow rate will target bacteria, while a faster flow will not touch bacteria, but consentrate on algae spores. So look into those specs, and see.You may find out that you are pumping WAY too much water through your UV,and it is actually doing nothing at all.If this is the case, you will need to hook it up on a seperate "loop" with it's own pump. This pump should have the spesific flow rate your unit requires for maximum effectiveness.
