UV Sterilizer

I was reading the latest Aquarium fish mag. and in one of the articles a person is asking the expert a question about his reef. What surprised me was that the guy mentions having a U V Sterilizer in his reef and the expert did not say anything about it. I have always been told that it is not good to have one in a reef. Is that true or do I have some bum info?

Everyone has their own opinions about it. Me, personally, I don't think it hurts that bad. Yes it kills phytoplankton and other good organisms, but it kills bad things too. TJ
