Do I really need to have a UV sterlizer for my 72 bow reef tank. I will eventually want to put a Angel Fish Empore in my tank. It said they respond best to UV Sterilizer. Is this true? Or will I be alright without it?

I fit a UV on all of my tanks. I beleive in them whole heartedly. They help control spreading of many common deseases. You don't have to fit one, and many don't because they don't want one and hear from someone they are not worth it. Since the person is looking for an excuse not to get one (usually) then they except it and put in there belief window as well. Once you've experienced the difference with one vs without one like I have. You will fit them as well. Every professional facility has them as well as coral major propagators. It's usually the home aquariust that has the dilema. On the other hand I have seen 1000's of successful aquariums without them. I beleive that prevention is the best to practice in this hobby.

I missed the fish you planned on adding, angel fish are not reef safe in that they eat your reef. Although some juvenile angels can be kept temperarely they will eventual take to there roots. The emporer angel grows to be 16 inches and is far to big for your aquarium as an adult unless you plan on getting a large fish only tank this fish needs to keep out of the mix. It is best to make a stocking list of what you want before you began to stock.
I would look into dwarf angels like the flame angel and such for a mixed reef tank. As well as reef safe butterflies like the copper banded butter fly.

I have a 90g my U.V. sterilizer is a ANGSTROM 2537 AN-8A powering it I have a profile 600 cheap power head that just broke tonight. the U.V. sterilizer I have is rated for up to a 155 gallon aquarium. the sterilizer is great. DONT buy the cheap power head. you will probably have to replace it like I'm going to do this weekend.
the power head I got only lasted 1 month I'm going to post a questionn about proper hook up of the power head to make sure I did it right
I hope this helped

I am kind of confused on the powerhead with the UV Sterilizer? You run a powerhead with the sterilizer in the tank or in your box under your tank? How would i do it with my set-up? I have rena XP3 canister filter and hang on skimmer? Where do I put the UV Sterilizer? Sorry for the dumb questions, but i dont have a clue on this one! One more thing where is the best website to get one?

You add the sterilizer horizontally in-line to the return hose to your tank. The pump that is returning your water now will be sufficient, given it can push the water the extra 8 inches through the UV.
I love Aqua ultra violets they have a ******** wiper that cleans the quartz sleeves, very convenient compared to most. This insures that the UV is getting to the water without any algae blocking it's path. Very asthetic aswell, looks very good. For your tank you need the small 8watt sterilizer this will cover your size and also aquriums up to 200 gals in case you upgrade. I can get you one for 120.00 plus shipping fed-ex. They sell for 134.95 plus shipping most places with the wiper. [edited]
