UV sterilizers for a reef tank?

I'm thinking about putting a UV sterilizer on my 55 gallon tall reef tank. What does anybody think about this? Any recommendations?

i think it's a waste. does more harm than good imo. are your fish diseased? i'd buy something else.

the other day i posted on a similar question. I love my uv. i has gotten rid of my algie problem so quickly and if it is killing some of the micro-organisms that i want then okay. its just mo

i think a u.v sterelizer is a good idea because it prevents and kills parasite that damage corals.

seems like it would be good for a quarantine or hospital tank, but i wouldn't use it on the reef full time. i would rather preserve any live food source i can provide for my corals, fish, etc. jmo though. your choice.

I have one on my 85 gallon. I never lost a fish to disease. Plus I don't have a algae problem either. Like they always say if it ain't broke don't fix it...

well here goes, sammy said it perfectly, i agree 100% and have gotten into many heated debates on this topic, but i still stand here saying it again
IMO, no not in a reef tank, b/c(as sammy said above)........... isall too true, IMO
they do not cure or prevent ick on the fish but kill the ick floating in the water
and with ick, IMO if it is in the water, it is too late, b/c it should be on a host and will be until the host dies, and it also kills many tings you want in the water as well
quarentine for the diseases and parasites, and balance the tank for algae(mean, watch feeding, and water parameters, and get a clean up crew to help and watch stocking levels), JUST IMO though
