UV Sterilizers???

I have never used a UV Sterilizer (not even on my 90 gallon reef that has been established for 8 years). I was thinking of trying one on my daughter's 29 gallon reef but I don't know if a UV Sterilizer will eliminate the purple coralline algae that is soooooo beautiful to me! If it doesn't harm the purple coralline algae, does anyone know of a very good (and efficient) UV Sterilizer to use? I have spared NO expence on my 4 year old daughter's 29 gallon reef. So, ANY suggestions are welcome. I might even fit my 90 gallon reef with one if it works in my daughter's tank! Thanks in advance...

they r useless in a reef setup. all they do is kill any floating algae that causes green water. if ur tank has an outbreak of icks, it will a litte too. i wouldnt put one in tho.

UVs are way over priced for what they do, they kill anything liveing in the water that is free floating even the good bacterias you want so bad in your tank, i guess if you had a break out of phyoto it would be good to have around but other then that im not going to pay what they want for them becuase i might sometime down the road get green water that will clear on its own if you cut back the lighting times, i would do wet/dry, good skimming, and filter pads like a sock over my drains and thats it
