how do i know if my water is running throug my uv light to fast?
i have a 9 watt uv double helix attached to a powerhead 402.

Check the specs on both the UV and the Powerhead...If you can't find the powerheads specs,Try pomping water into a five gallon bucket using the powerhead,Time how long it takes to fill it up,then do the math to figure how many gallons per hour...
 
When ;you have the right flow rate, a UV filter will kill EVERYTHING that passes through it. It does not matter what you want to kill. Do a search on UV-C light.

A Double-Helix 9-watt is rated at 200 gph max flow rate. The AquaClear 402 is rated 270 gph max flow. If you are running your 402 at full flow, then you're over-flowing your sterilizer. I would suggest either turning your 402 all the way down and see if it helps, or going with a 301. An ideal powerhead for the Double-Helix 9-watt is the ViaAqua 480. It also hooks up easily to the Double-Helix. This is the setup I have provided for customers before, when they requested a sterilizer. HTH

I had that Red slime bacteria bad stuff and I just put in some CHEMI-CLEAN from the LFS and it was gone in 3 days and i had it bad all over. Its Safe for reef, invertebrates, algaes, nitrifying bacteria and fish. Good stuff

I have a 25 watt uv and it did not help with the cynobacteria Red slime bacteria. :eek: just put in some CHEMI-CLEAN!!! ;)
