I'm planning on a 12g Nano. I understand that something like this should "probably" go into the Nano Tanks section, but I think it applies to fishkeeping in general.
What do you do when you go away on trips? Start over when you come back?

My friend looks after our two tanks.
I bring him over for about 2 hour a week before we leaver a give up saltwater up keep classes and give him a couple of books to read
Oh Yea most important Leave an emergency call me if my tank is crashing cell phone number!

None of my friends would be willing to learn enough to keep up a 12g Nano/come to my house every day or so.

Auto top off for your RO water and a BIG container to keep it in. How evaporation do you have? Do you have any fish?

I haven't gotten anything yet, just for the record.
I'm planning on a 12g (major change from the 90 I was going for a week or so ago). I do plan on investing in an Auto Top-Off. The only fish I'd have would be a False Percula and some coral.

A clown could go a week or 2 with no food. Make sure it is healthy and well fed before you go and make sure you leave plenty of water for the top off and your lights on a timer.

Ugg don't risk an auto feeder. If it malfunctions you have a dead tank from decaying food.

Couple of years ago, I went to Hawaii for a couple of weeks and just had someone add water for evaporation. I fed on the heavy side for six weeks before I went and the week before I left, I slowed up a bit -- like every other day and then slightly heavy the night before we left. Everything was fine -- lost nothing. Tank was 45 gallons with just fish and shrooms. Of course, I tried to get my nitrates as close to 0 before I left and made sure all cleaning was done periodically before I left too. When I say cleaning before I left, I mean like 2 weeks just in case there was a leak or problem. GOOD LUCK.

I have been planning to set up my 55 gallon, but am also planning to go on a trip the middle of next month :jumping: . I am holding off on setting anything up until I get back. Are you planning a vacation in the near future? If you are thinking of what to do in the distant future, after your tank is established...is there someone at your LFS you can trust that you could hire to come in and take care of the tank?

We're taking an 18-day trip to Australia in a couple months so the tank will be started after this. Only reason I'm asking because this is playing a large factor in its purchase.
