i see frags are the big thing
if i were to start putting 1/2-1 inch frags in my reef how fast do they colonize and/or grow?
i know it is a difficult question to answer and i know that different corals grow at different speeds
but,if the frag is only 1/2 inch how long does it take to grow eneough to see it?

Depends on the type of coral, some will take a long time, others could multiply rapidly. Example, I started with one very small frag of pulsating xenia, and it had multiplied into probably 10 seperate heads, most over 4-5" tall with 3 months. This is one of the fast one's obviously. It also depends on your water condition. Good water quality, good lighting appropriate to the corals you have, and good maintenance/equipment will = faster and healthier coral growth.

i keep great water quality .
right now i only have 2 175 watt mh bulbs but next month i plant to get a much bigger light system and start adding corals.
just seems that 1/2 inch frags would take forever to grow.
i have always just bought bigger easy corals like leathers.
i would like to graduate to more colorfull corals and need to learn.
i have over 200 lbs of lr with just some shrooms and a few polyps so i have alot of room for frags.
i just didnt want to load up with 20 frags then in a year they will overgrow each other.
i will probably have to ask alot of questions about different frags.
i have had fish for over 20 yrs but just now getting interested in corals.
another can of worms to open .
