when you say "lettuce" you dont really mean lettuce right? or do you mean seaweed?
when i put my clips in the tank i leave it until my tangs it ( which is very quick) other than that if theyd ont eat it i take it right out, sinc ei dont want it sitting in the tank decaying

i thought it was romaine lettuce or spinach?

It's mainly used to clip the dry algae sheets. But you can clip veggies on there too. My fish never liked those veggies....lettuce is a waste of time as it contains no nutritional value to the fish same as humans, it's for filling only. IF you want more nutrition, get the frozen formula foods and feed the algae sheets. :happyfish

barola87, I agree with the others on lettuce, You can purchase the Red, Green or Brown seaweed from your LFS or you can buy Nori from your local grocery store (usually in the specialty Isle), Hermits, Snails and many fish will eat this.
However, you can use Fresh Frozen Peas or Fresh Frozen Broccoli thawed from your local grocery store along with the Nori/Seaweed.
