I didn't know that..thanks.
Acrylic, In view of the information I just learned, and concerning shutting everything down...it would make it a day when everything is just empty and dead outside the home. A day to celebrate the end of a war, and our men coming home, should have people out and about enjoying the day. JMO
Still....I agree, it should be a national Holiday when all vets should get the day off ...but not shut everything down....maybe half a day shut down, to remember the fallen in battle. The half day would really bring attention to our fallen heros, and remind us that our freedom comes with a high price....
Agree maybe a poor choice of words there, but I'm mystified when all these employers "state" they support our troops and our veterans, but we can't make an "exception" for these individuals to actually honor those individuals with the day off.....You see tons of restaurants offering free meals to the veterans on veterans day........
I've seen my employer "bone" a guy which I think is really poor IMHO.....The guys served in Iraq for a year with the guard....Serving his country and needless to say when he returned to work only to find out since he was gone for a year with the Guard he didn't earn any vacation for the upcoming year.....IMHO that is piss poor and cheap.....The guy did work; and at a much greater cost that some of us fail to realize or see.....
