The only thing I can suggest for right now is you would probalby want to put a powerhead in there for more water movement. Of course you said it was an older picture so I dont know if you already have one. also just wondering how long has it been set up and are you going to do corals?
I will be waiting for the pic's, have fun painting!

Looks good so far, VERY clean and VERY new... is that an anemone? I hope not...

As for tips/comments take it slow read, research and ask questions. Do not impulse buy and do not take the advice of your LFS as 100% truth.
Get good quality liquid test kits for your water chemistry, pH, alk, nitrites, nitrates and amonia. Refractometer for measuring your S.G. and set up a regimented weekly water change schedule. Good luck and keep posting the pics.

I repied with some advice. Most likely your brown growth is diatoms, an expected occurance in a new tank. But it could also be cyano bacteria a sign of too many nutrients in your water. With out water tests pinpointing it is difficult.

even though your puffer is very cute I do believe that your tank is to small for him. I would still suggest that you put a couple of powerheads in there for water circulation. How long has your tank been set up and what kind of lighting do you have?
PerfectDark gave you some really good info. If you dont have any test kits I would suggest that you get some and test your water along with the other suggestions PD made.
It's a nice tank and with some more work it could turn out to be a really nice tank.
