VHO light

Okay this may have been asked before but i thougt i'd ask anyway
i'm wanting to get better lighting in my tank and was wondering about coralife's VHO bulb can you throw that in a regualar hood
or is there anything more powerful i could put in a regular flourescent hood it's for my soon to be 39gal semi coral setup..
i want good lighting but can't shell out 200- 500 bucks for lighting

You won't get the output when using your NO strip with VHO bulbs. There are companies out there where you get get vho retro kits starting at around $150.00.

If you exceed the power (wattage) rating of the fixture you'll burn up the ballast. There is no really cheap way to get good lights except to shop for sales and consider used gear. JMO

A workhorse 7 ballast will cost you about $35.00 and it can run two 48 inch VHO bulbs. You can't get much cheaper than that.
