VHO + PC?? Enough?

I really want to upgrade to MH but I really don't have the money or time (to build a hood) so I was wondering if I have 2X65w PC's and either another 2X65 PC or some type of VHO would i be alright to support everything besides clams?
I have a 55 gal reef with about 40lbs or LR and 3 hang on back filters.
Any Info would be great.
Also what kind of VHO's should I look for?
Wattage and cost ??

If you don't want to build a canopy you can get halide hoods. If you want to keep it cheap get more PC's. I wouldn't try high light SPS but montis and such would be OK.

On a 55g you could run 4-65w PCs or 3-110w VHOs and keep a wide variety of corals... you would have some limitations but you could have a very nice reef with that lighting.

I maintained a sweet 55 reef with 4x65 PC's and 2x110 VHO's for about 2 years....large assortment of LPS types and even a squamosa clam.
But there is much more to consider than just lighting...water chemistry and stability plays a large roll too....:thinking:
