vho vs. pc

That's cool. I do recommend getting rid of you sand sifting star. Your combination of bittlestars, snails, crabs, and a cuke is more than enough for stirring. The sand sifter will feed on the fauna depleting the life that is necessary for a functional sand bed. These creatures help with the exchange of nitrates to nitrogen gas and also provide extra food for your inhabitants. You'll see it in the health of the corals too. Trust me on this one.

shootonsite,
I didn't say you were wrong. I said that's your opinion. Opinions are like a##holes and you my friend have 2. Your attitude sucks. The holier than thou thing you got going don't work here. I've had my sand sifter for over a year and haven't had any problems. Period.

That's funny, but your anger and inability to reason already speaks volumes about you. Proving you've got the job of being my 2nd @$$hole. I'm also still waiting for you to have a point. What else can you squeeze out?

What's with the anal talk anyway? Is there something you want to tell us? There are other forums for that, you know.

Funny, I'm not in the least bit angry. If you read my post aand didn't get upset you would have seen that my point was to let the others use your info to help them make a choice in what they should try. All I am saying is you have a tendancy to come off with what seems like a bad attitude. Peace. <img src="graemlins//angel.gif" border="0" alt="[angel]" />

I haven't forced my opinions on anyone, yet you continue to post messages. Could it be that you're angry because you've got so much equipment listed to maintain the same stuff I have. Don't worry, you're not alone.

Back to the original question....Do PCs relly produce more lumens per watt?? I know that MH produce around 60-80 lm/wt, but I am not sure what PC bulbs actually are. Are they flourescents or somethings else? Also, what king of flourescent bulbs do we use ex.T-8, T-12? Saying that 100 watt flor uses more energy then a 100 watt PC is like saying wich is heavier 100lbs of cotton or 100lbs of lead, but if PC do produce more lumens per watt then it makes sense.

Blondnaso,
Check out this sight for info on PC, MH and VHO. Just don't let shootonsite know he'll tell you it's a conspiracy and that they want you to buy more stuff. LOL :D

BlondeNaso1,
Sorry about ignoring your question. Sometimes it can get boring so I got to have fun with people. Here's a website that touches upon every detail about lighting. MH, VHO, PC, lumens, watts, spectrum, you name it. Remember, adjust your lighting needs according to what inhabits your tank. The important thing is to achieve proper photosynthesis.

It wasn't my question initially, I was just wondering about the lumens. I have been to the Hamalton Tech web site before. I currently have PC and VHO on my 55 and am going with the VHO/MH combo for a 125 I am setting up.
What are the lumens of a 100wt HO compared to a 96watt PC?

I believe that's answered in the one I provided. Did you check that yet? Those HQI lights sound pretty cool, but I haven't read a lot about them.

I would love to chime in with the opinion that shootonsight is a total idiot. If he isn't debating that a watt is different depending on the light source, he is arguing that PCs use less electricity. I think the point is that no one is here to argue with your incorrect points, we are just afraid that you are wasting a lot of peoples time and money by being part of this board.
"no one's been able to argue or prove me wrong intelligently." Can you explain you whole gas in different engines theory again, that was a classic!

That's a good website shoot. The lumens/input Watt for the example PC is about 85 for that temp rating. I skimmed through all 3 pages though and did not find lumens output for a VHO bulb. Can you please point to this information to me? I may have missed it.
For lumens/Watt information, mostly for normal bulbs, check out:

This was a compilation of research I did from what I read online, web surfing at lighting sights, and from going to the local Wallmart, collecting lumens and Watts info, and doing the math.
Cheers,
kris

ALRIGHT THATS ENOUGH LET ME END THIS ARGUEMENT THIS IS WHAT IT BASICALLY COMES DOWN TO. BOTH OF THEM (PC'S AND VHO'S )ARE GOOD OPTIONS BUT IF YOU WANT A MORE COLORFUL ARRAY OF LIGHTING THEN YOU GOT WITH VHO'S ACTINIC , ALSO THE DOWN SIDE OF VHO'S IS YOU MUST BUY ALOT OF THEM TO SUPPORT A LARGE TANK, AND YES ITS TRUE THEY DONT PRODUCE AS MUCH HEAT AS PCS BUT STILL YOU WOULD NEED AT LEAST 6-8 ON A 100 GALLON UP TANK. ITS THE CHOICE OF THE PEOPLE TO GET WHAT KIND OF LGIHT THEY WANT. I WOULD PERSONALLY PICK 2 POWERFUL PC'S AND 2 VHO'S AT LEAST ONE ACTINIC. OR YOU CAN GO WITH METAL HALIDE WITH VHO'S OR PC'S REMEMBER WITH METAL HALIDES YOU CAN RAISE ANY TYPE OF

YOU WANT
