VODKA DOSING

I was reading a post by Stanlalee about vodka/vinegar dosing and was wondering if anyone could tell me how this is done. How much do you use and how often and how is it administered. I have a 210 gallon tank and am always interested in finding new techniques that could help my maintenance. Such as the green film algae on my glass. I am really tired of always cleaning it off. Other than that things are pretty good. Would appreciate any information given.

If you Google Vodka Dosing or check out the other big forum site, there is pages upon pages of info there....Sorry can't post a link.

there's not a single sponsored advertisement on the link so they can do what they want with it as far as removing it but the detailed guidelines are here http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/index.php see the chart for specifics.
I'll warn CYNO is a definately possible side effect that I've experienced even at relatively low doses (using both vodka and vinger seperately and together). I did not experience any cyno with brightwell biofuel however it doesn't work nearly as well as vodka IMO as its not that potent at recommended dose. But yes as far as glass algae even stopping for a few days there's a visable difference in the time frame between glass cleaning (the glass works better for me than testing or anything else for dosage adjustments as my test read great before I even started). I'd advise start slowly and if you see cyno back off the dosage. for me its kind of a balance of enough vodka to keep the glass clean and nullifying the effects of food dumping (read increased fish and coral feeding purposely to spur coral growth) but not so much that cyno starts to get out of hand. EVERYBODY doesn't experience cyno (which is a bacteria that appearently benefits from the carbon source just as much as the bacteria you want to benefiit from it) but most do in some degree. many say using a bacteria product such a microbacter 7 reduced or eliminated cyno. Its done ZERO to help for me and I've used it every which way and dose for over a year. the best way to counter cyno if you experience it is to back off the dose or siphon it out during water changes. Doing weekly water changes would do wonder for this side effect as well (since it takes that long before it begins to show its head in any significants) I just dont want to do it. many recommend doing weekly water changes when dosing vodka. Big azz skimmer is also suppose to be a requirement which I have since gone WAY overkill.

Agree here with Stanlalee. I am daily dosing vodka and a maintenance weekly dose of Microbacter 7 and have not experienced a cyano outbreak. ***knocks on wood**** As you can see from the thread slice posted I am a little over a year into is now. For the glass algae I do not get it other than the hard green Diatom or Radiolarian colonies that appear and are a bummer to get off. Even this is mostly relegated to the glass where the junction of the substrate and water are. I also feed a lot to help with the coral growth and color. One other thing I dose as part of the coral care it Brightwell Amino Acids at the rate of about two drops per day. (29 gallon biocube)

Thanks Stanlalee....That is what I was referring to, but it seems whenever I mention something from that site it gets blocked out. Don't honestly understand why that site can't be mentioned, there isn't any selling and only trying to provide good information.

It has forums which are against the rules here. Don't ask me to explain cause I don't get it either except the mods here can't control what is posted there.

I know just it's for the betterment of the hobby which isn't selling or competing against this site or even when I credited someone from another forum it's edited?
