I got a vortex diatom filter and i cant get it to stop blowing out air bubbles. I have tried taking it apart checked everything and put it back together and cant get it to stop. Any suggestions.
If i'm not mistaking somewhere on the exhaust tube up around where the filter hangs on the rim of the tank you'll see a small hole about the size of a
BB or a little smaller. Plug the hole up and the bubbles should stop.
I have a real old one (probably 30 yrs old) but it still works like a charm. These filters were probably upgraded or modified a dozen times since mine was made. I thought by chance it might of had a hole like mine does. It was a shot in the dark but I guess it didn't help. I don't think there are too many people that use diatom filters anymore. Try calling your local fish shop or look on the instruction manual to see if there is a phone# for a help line.
Sorry I couldn't help
I had the same problem it was the shaft seals. I do not use it no more as I was told it puts silica in the water. Now I have not more algae on the glass.
Here is there site. http://www.diatomfilter.com/manual.htm
